Mr. Jacobson comes in at 7, for an 8 am procedure. The 7 am case canceled, so Mr. Jacobson’s case starts early. When prepping Mr. Jacobson he asks you to please call his escort one hour before he is ready to be discharged as his escort works around the corner and the escort will need some notice to come pick him up.
You make a note of it in the chart but then get called to help with an emergency and forget to pass this information onto the front desk & back. Mr. Jacobson’s case is finished. When the back calls you to send his escort back you panic, as you realize Mr. Jacobson’s escort has not been notified. You hurry and call him, to let him know that Mr. Jacobson is ready to be discharged. He is irate. He says he won’t be there for at least an hour, and asks why he was not apprised of Mr. Jacobson’s status.
